Springbar Tool (all metal body with replaceable tips)

This Spring Bar tool is an ideal and cost effective means of changing leather watchstraps.

This is a decent size tool which handles well, unlike the more compact designs which actually make the task of changing your watchstrap a more fiddly affair than it should be.

All metal body with mm and inch scales for convenient measurement. Flat sided hexagonal main body - so it stays where you put it down and will not roll around your work surface.

Supplied with two threaded metal tips, one forked for for compressing spring bars in 'blind hole' type case lugs and the other for open hole designs, ie. those with external access to the spring bar.

Overall length (including replaceable tips) = 150mm

1st class P+P is included to all UK post codes.

These items usually ship within 48 hours or whenever possible - sooner.

Overseas customers please click here for shipping details.

Replacement tips are available at £1.10 each plus P&P if ordered individually (please email your requirements if you need additional tips).

Spring Bar Tool usage notes

Using a spring bar tool is very straightforward and provided the inexperienced user applies
reasonable care and patience (both with your watch and the tool) watchstraps can be conveniently removed and replaced quickly and with minimum fuss

Common Case Lug Types

Watch case lug types

The most common watch case lug designs come in two principal types, ie. those with 'closed' lugs as seen above left or 'open' as seen above right. There are other more esoteric designs but for the purposes of this (admittedly simple) spring bar tool user guide only the two types seen above are covered here.

TSS Spring Bars

All spring bars supplied with TSS watchstraps feature a double flange as seen below

Watchstrap Spring Bar

When carefully inserted between the inside face of the case lug and the strap the spring bar
tool fork tip locates on the double flange allowing the spring bar to be easily compressed.
Once the spring bar has be sufficiently compressed the strap can be removed.

Spring Bar Position

The spring bar connecting your strap to your watch is positioned approximately as
seen above - there are slight variations depending on the brand and design of your
particular watch but the difference will not be great in the vast majority of cases.
The male end of the spring bar locates in the female port found on the inside of the
case lug. There is a central (internal) spring that allows the each spring bar end to
be compressed for removal and refitting. TSS supply Swiss made stainless steel
spring bars only as we believe them to be superior in terms of service life and are
highly resistant to corrosion and seizing.

Using the tool with closed type case lugs
(as seen below)

a) Carefully insert the fork tip between the inside face of the case lug and the strap as indicated below

b) Apply a light levering action to compress the spring bar

*the compression required is rarely more than a 2-3 mm

**avoid using too much force as this could damage the fork tip or worse - your watch !

If you are unable to compress the spring bar with a light levering pressure your old spring bar(s) could be seized. In this instance TSS recommend that you take your watch to a
local watch repairer to remove the spring bars and fit your new strap.
